ROCK LEGEND BO DIDDLEY DIES AT 79
Filed Under News | Leave a Comment

Rock legend Bo Diddley died June 2 of heart
failure in Archer, Fla., according to his spokesperson. He was 79. Diddley suffered a stroke last spring and had a heart attack last August, from which he never fully
recovered.
Born Ellas Otha Bates McDaniel on Dec. 30, 1928, in McComb, Miss., Diddley holds the distinction of being the only musician in history to have a specific
musical beat, or rhythmic pattern, named after him. The “Bo Diddley beat” blends equal parts rock’n'roll rhythm and gospel shout in its “bomp, ba-bomp-bomp, bomp-bomp”
pattern, which became an enduring staple of popular music. His songs, a tasteful blend of blues and R&B elements, were among the earliest true rock’n'roll recordings. Via

Yves Saint Laurent, one of the greatest fashion designers in history, died at his home late Sunday at 71 after a long battle with brain cancer. He had been bedridden
recently and friends said in the last week he had been unable to eat or talk. Saint Laurent had been rarely seen over the last year, and even then he was wheelchair bound and
weak.

Actress
Sharon Stone has been dropped by cosmetics firm Christian Dior from its Chinese advertisements following remarks she made about the recent earthquake. The quake struck
south-west China on 12 May, and has claimed 68,000 lives.
Stone, 50, models for Christian Dior, and the company’s Shanghai office issued her apology. “Due to my
inappropriate words and acts during the interview, I feel deeply sorry and sad about hurting Chinese people,” the statement said. “I am willing to take part in the relief work
of China’s earthquake, and wholly devote myself to helping affected Chinese people.” Dior’s China branch also distanced itself from Stone’s remarks.
“We don’t agree
with her hasty, unreflecting remarks and we deeply regret them,” it said in a Chinese-language statement. “We absolutely do not support any remark that hurts the Chinese
people’s feelings.”
Stone made the controversial remarks at the Cannes Film Festival last week, leading to pledges by some Chinese cinemas not to show her films. “I’m
not happy about the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans because I don’t think anyone should be unkind to anyone else,” Stone told a Hong Kong TV crew. “And then all this
earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, ‘is that karma - when you’re not nice that the bad things happen to you?’”
